Greg and I created this site so we could document our adventures on the Great Loop.
The Great Loop is a waterway that includes part of the Atlantic, Gulf Intracoastal Waterways, Great Lakes, Canadian Heritage Canals, and inland rivers of America’s heartland.
Maps of the Loop are available from Raven Cove Publishing.
Our plan was to start from Chicago after our training. We would have travelled south, returning briefly to Seneca where we bought the boat, and then continued on our journey south to warmer climes.
After a month on the boat, we have travelled from Seneca to Chicago to Hammond to Chicago to Hammond.
The first time we went to Hammond, we got a new distributor cap. The second time, we went, we got some filters cleaned.
Neither of these fixed our starboard engine problem so we aborted our attempt to leave Hammond.
Our next step is to get a full tune up and maybe buy some Flame Throwers, which were recommended by a fellow Silverton owner who had the same issue with his engines.
We’re not going to try to cash in on the insurance, tempting though it is at times.
Our time is running out to actually start the Loop. Marinas will be closing soon and if we can’t get gas along the way, we just can’t go. Our looper journey will be over before it has even begun.
We’ll have to see what tomorrow brings.
