If You Like PIna Coladas

Our blender comes with a Colada button!
Our blender comes with a Colada button!

The blender I bought is a party blender. It has settings for Margarita, Mudslide, Colada, and Daiquiri.

There is no recipe booklet (!!!) and no explanation of why each drink type requires a different setting.

But, the buttons put pictures of parties in my head. Parties where all I would have to do is press a button and the perfect frozen drink would magically appear.

So, I bought it.

Last night, I fired up the blender so that I could make Greg’s favourite drink.

I got the recipe from Simply Recipes. I don’t have a shot glass so I just used cups (4 ounces = 1/2 cup).

What I blended:

  • 3/4 cup white rum
  • 3/4 cup cream of coconut
  • 3/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup pineapple
  • 4 cups ice

I didn’t have frozen pineapple so I just used canned pineapple chunks.

Then I tried to float 2 tablespoons of golden rum on top, but that stuff sank like a son of a bitch.

It wasn’t bad, but it tasted like too much rum and not enough pineapple. Plus, it was watery. Frozen drinks should be slushy.

I was going to make another batch with frozen pineapple but I fell asleep.

We have registered for the Winter Rendezvous. So, if we see you there, our Colada recipe should be perfected.

We’ve registered for the Looper Crawl and will be serving Coladas until the rum runs out. (Don’t get excited, we’ll only have a few bottles, not a few barrels.)

SIGNATURE DRINKS

Since the sidebar can also serve up whiskey and vodka, I wanted a signature drink for each of the available alcohols.

I’m thinking about a Whiskey Sour for the whiskey and a True North Caesar (’cause we’re Canadian) for the vodka.

A True North Caesar is made with maple sugar and is garnished with bacon.

Another possibility for the vodka is Sex on the Beach, just because.

Scotch will be served neat or on the rocks because, well, it’s scotch.
